- Various unique plants can be found in grasslands such as
- coreopsis wildflowers, poison ivy, The Blazing Star, grass, asters, goldenrods, palm trees, big bluestem, wild ryes, and clovers.
Although these plants don't help grasslands in any way, they do provide food for herbivores in the area. WILDFIRES ARE AN IMPORTANT ROLE IN GRASSLANDS. Trees protect themselves from fires by collecting a lot of moisture in their trunks or have thick trunks to resist burning. The upper portion of grasses burn/die off, but the roots survive and sprout again. Shrubs almost immediately sprout after the fire. Savannas also have a couple trees and can be considered forest at times.
